Ivy Tech curriculum details

  • Students must complete MATH 136 (recommended to prepare for physics) or MATH 135.
  • CHEM 111 or CHEM 105 must be taken to satisfy the chemistry lab requirement.
  • COMM 101 is required to meet IUPUI’s General Education Core.
  • Students will take both RESP 206 and RESP 207 (5 credits) or RESP 208 (5 credits).
  • Students must complete the Ivy Tech degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a “C” or better in all coursework to be eligible to enter the B.S. Respiratory Therapy program at IUPUI.
  • Students who complete the A.S. Respiratory Care program at Ivy Tech must obtain the Registered Respiratory Therapist (R.R.T.) credential. Admission to IUPUI’s B.S. Respiratory Therapy program cannot be offered until the credential is obtained.

IUPUI curriculum details

  • Maximum of 71 credits can be transferred to IUPUI.
  • Students must take the following courses specified in semesters 8 and 9: IU School of Medicine Degree Completion Courses (29-30 credits) prior to entry into the B.S. Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Once admitted to the program, students will complete the 34 credit hours specified in semesters 10 and 11:IU School of Medicine Professional Curriculum to earn their baccalaureate degree.

NOTES for semester 8 and 9 below

  • These 29-30 credit hours must be taken outside the Ivy Tech system at a four-year college or university.
  • MATH 15300 and 15400 are preferred to prepare for physics.
  • Students must earn a minimum 3.0 GPA and a “C” or better in all coursework to be eligible to enter the B.S. Respiratory Therapy program at IUPUI.
  • If not already admitted to IUPUI, students should submit an application to the IUPUI Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Health Professions Program (HPP) Administrative office by January 1st for fall consideration to the B.S. Respiratory Therapy program. Students applying for spring consideration should contact the IUPUI HPP Administrative Office for details.
  • All IU School of Medicine Degree Completion Courses must be completed prior to entry to the B.S. Respiratory Therapy program.

NOTES for semester 10 and 11 below: 

  • Students can start the program in either the fall or spring semester.
  • Please refer to the IU School of Medicine Respiratory Therapy Program “Rules for Associate Degree RRT Program Graduates Granted Advanced Standing Admission to Senior Year” for more options on how the professional curriculum above can be completed.
